Frequently asked

Is Coles or Woolworths cheaper?
Coles, in most weeks — but not every week. Over the 14 weeks we have tracked since 8 July 2026, our family basket was cheaper at Coles in 11 weeks and at Woolworths in 3. On average Coles came out 2.8% cheaper, but the gap in any single week averaged 4.3% and mostly depends on that week's specials.
How much can you save by shopping at both?
Buying each item of the family basket wherever it was cheaper that week cost on average $9.11 less per week (5.0%) than doing the whole shop at the cheaper of the two stores.
What is in the basket?
23 everyday items — milk, eggs, bread, mince, chicken, pasta, fruit and veg, pantry staples and household basics. 13 are the exact same branded product at both stores; the others compare each store's own-brand equivalent of the same size, and chicken is compared per kilogram.
How often is this updated?
Every week. Prices are captured from the Coles and Woolworths websites each Wednesday, when both supermarkets change their catalogue specials.
